_ About Me
I grew up in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from U.C.L.A.
I became active in the Women’s Movement and co-founded Sisterhood Bookstore, Los Angeles’ feminist book store and resource center.
I studied for two years with the Berkeley Transactional Analysis (TA) Center and then facilitated TA Problem Solving groups for seven years based on that theoretical model. During my training we focused strongly on understanding the dynamics unique to the lives of minority clients including women, LGBTQ and people of color. Strength and support within communities of survivors was stressed. I continue to model my therapy groups to include many TA principles. Please see “groups” tab.
After moving to Virginia I was credentialed in both Individual and Family Mediation by the Richmond Dispute Resolution Center.
Later, I returned to graduate school and received my Master of Social Work at V.C.U. and then earned my license as a Clinical Social Worker in Virginia.
Prior to my private practice I worked as a therapist for 12 years, providing Community Mental Health in an outpatient clinic setting.
Additionally, I have experience working in crisis assessment and am a certified Pre-screener in Virginia. I have worked with inpatient residential psychiatric care and have an extensive knowledge of psychotropic medications.
I have worked in mental health for over twenty years.
